You can impress guests in literally one minute with a raw, grain-free alternative to rice. All you need is a head of fresh cauliflower and a food processor. Here’s what I did: I cut the head of cauliflower into large pieces and then added half to my 14 cup food processor. I alternated between the pulse button and the on button until the cauliflower appeared to have a rice-like consistency. After putting it in the bowl, I did the same thing with the other half. I prefer to process smaller amounts at a time to ensure an even consistency in the “rice”. As far as consuming it goes, I like to eat it raw with other veggies. I’ll share that recipe in another post. You can even use the “rice” to make your own sushi or use it as a side for another dish you have planned. If you prefer to cook it, you can use it as a rice-alternative in a stir fry or soup. Enjoy! This is the food processor that I used: Be sure to connect with me on Facebook for even more inspiration!

These are so easy and fun to make! I’ll bet you can whip them together in just 15 minutes too. I did. Here’s what you’ll need: INGREDIENTS: 12 Pitted Medjool Dates (Fresh or dehydrated dates that have been soaked in water for 20-30 minutes) 1/2 Cup Dehydrated Strawberries 2 Tablespoons Raw Carob Powder Small Bowl of Shredded Coconut For Coating Directions: Add pitted dates, strawberries and carob powder to food processor and blend well. Grab small globs of batter and roll each one into a ball. You can make them any size you wish. The smaller you make them, the more cookies you’ll have to share. Flatten the ball between your palms to create cookies and then dip into bowl of coconut to coat each side. You may want to moisten your fingers with water to dampen each cookie if you need help making sure the coconut sticks well. This recipe will make approximately 10 small cookies. Place in fridge for a couple of hours and then serve. You can also store them in the freezer. For more inspiration, follow The Organic Housewife on Facebook!

I was asked this morning if eating a big bowl of fruit gives me a stomach ache. The answer: Quite the opposite! This bowl of kiwis gives me more energy than a bowl of oatmeal or eggs ever has! It keeps me satisfied AND hydrated. Fruit digests more quickly than other foods so when you eat it on an empty stomach, it doesn’t cause upset or blood sugar issues. I should know. I used to have major blood sugar issues AND digestive disturbances. Plus, you’re getting the benefits of so many vitamins and live enzymes. Raw fruit is also naturally anti-inflammatory. And your body WILL NOT miss the high protein, even if you are super active. I used to think the opposite. Just be sure to eat the same amount of calories worth of fruit that you would in a typical meal. Really, it’s okay! If you do decide to experiment, try replacing your regular breakfast with a giant bowl of fruit every morning (when you’re stomach is the emptiest) and let me know how it goes! RAW = ALIVE!!!!! Goji Berries For more tips and inspiration, follow The Organic Housewife of Facebook!

I couldn’t wait to dig into this gift that my sister brought me on Thanksgiving Day. I wanted to wait and show you how pretty this box of gluten free treats looked when I received it. Alas, you are looking at a half-eaten container. You get the point though. Nice presentation. Definite wow-factor. Each treat is individually wrapped. And organic. I was impressed. See the round white treat in the bottom of the photo? That was a lemon ginger bite of amazing-ness! Inside the truffle was a cake texture with a creamy filling in the middle. No wonder Hostess is in hot water! Luckily, there were two inside. What I also discovered in this box of heaven from The Brownie Factory was something that looked like a chocolate treat. I am not a fan of chocolate so I was pleasantly surprised when I took a bite and fell in love. If it was chocolate, then I am converted. I could eat them all day. And who couldn’t resist organic, gluten free cookies! I will assure you they were magical. If you know someone who is trying to be faithfully gluten free and has a big sweet tooth, I highly recommend sending them a care package like this. Think Christmas, Birthdays, college students far away, Valentine’s Day, a thank you to a client…..or why not treat yourself! Much gratitude to my sister, Melissa, for introducing me to this company. It’s great to know that there are businesses out there who still care about what they put into their food. The Brownie Factory clearly states on their website that all of their desserts “are made with organic & all natural ingredients. There are no artificial ingredients, no GMO’s, icky gums, preservatives or tapioca/potato starch or flours used in any of our desserts.” Check out The Brownie Company online for yourself and shop the other organic, gluten free and vegan snacks they have for sale. Thank you so much, Brownie Queen! Here’s the inside of that lemon ginger truffle I told you about.
Do you love dessert? Are you into trying to foods? Keep reading. Yesterday I was in New York City and found myself face-to-face with some beautiful, Asian produce. Initially the plan was to hit up the local farmer’s market in the city while visiting friends. I was hoping to find something new to try. Boy, did I! But not where I thought I would. On the way to the restaurant, we ended up in Chinatown, surrounded by the most gorgeous and exotic fruits I have ever seen! With all the buzz in the raw food community regarding tropical fruit, I decided to take this opportunity to find out exactly what I have been missing. Have you ever eaten a fresh yellow mango? Wow! I just tried one for the first time today. I actually ate three of them. It is not like the typical mango found in local New England grocery stores where I shop. The yellow mango (also known as champagne mango or Ataulfo) that I just experienced was so buttery, and had a sweet custard-like consistency that totally melted in my mouth! If you ever happen to find these mangoes in your travels, I encourage you to eat one as soon as possible, and then take a case home with you. I’m not planning to head back to NYC anytime soon but I’m thinking a tropical vacation is definitely in order, just so I can eat them all day long. Check back soon because I still have more fruit to try! Have you every heard of the stinky durian fruit? What about the pink and green dragon fruit? I’ve got a fridge full of that and more to taste share with you. Goji Berries
